The Coastal Prairie Conservancy established Nature’s Burial to create burial grounds which are part of its greater efforts to restore degraded pasture, enhance wetlands, and reestablish native grasses and wildflowers. The natural burial grounds of Blazing Star Sanctuary occupy nearly 8 acres within a critical conservation area of the Katy Prairie Preserve. This area has been designated as a Globally Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society, and provides habitat for resident and migratory birds, pollinators, and a host of other wildlife that depend on the coastal prairie.
All proceeds from Nature’s Burial are used for the operation and management of Nature’s Burial and the Coastal Prairie Conservancy and to further the mission of sustaining a resilient Texas by preserving coastal prairies, wetlands, farms, and ranches forever
Green burial is a way of caring for our departed loved ones while also caring for the natural world. A green burial uses non-toxic and biodegradable materials and avoids use of chemicals or materials that may harm the surrounding environment. These methods conserve natural resources, reduce carbon emissions, protect public health, and restore habitat.
Burials in the conservation cemetery will be prepared in accordance with the Green Burial Council natural methods for body preparation and interment, allowing all who are laid to rest to be surrounded by life as they return peacefully to the earth.
